Dischma
Snow Avalanche Detection
Dischma is an avalanche exposed valley close to Davos in Graubünden, Switzerland. Due to the high frequency of avalanches this valley has been chosen as avalanche test site by the SLF (WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research) and a seismic array consisting of seven geophones has been installed first in 2015. Beside the seismic arrays an infrasound array consisting of five sensors (Department of Earth Sciences, University of Firenze, Italy) is tested there closed to the seismic array and also several cameras monitor the valley. In Winter 2019/20 and in 2021/22 a MAMODIS system has been installed in cooperation with the SLF on the northern hillslope. The system was placed in a height of 2300 m a.s.l. close to an avalanche which has a starting zone around 2600 m a.s.l. at the Sattelhorn and goes down to Dürrboden at 2007 m a.s.l. where the seismic and infrasound arrays are installed. In 2021/22 a second MAMODIS station was installed at Dürrboden.
