MAMODIS - "MAss MOvement Detection and Identification System"

Automatic Detection and Identification of Alpine Mass Movements
based on a Combination of Infrasound and Seismic Signals

Dristenau

The Dristenau torrent with a catchment area of about 9.9 km² is located in the northern limestone alps near Pertisau in Tyrol. The upper limits of the watershed is at around 2100 m a.s.l., the outlet at 930 m a.s.l. where it flows into the Achensee. Frequent sediment transport and small debris floods occur in this torrent. Three monitoring stations (Figure 1) equipped with precipitation gauge, video camera, and flow height radar were installed. Two in the upper part of the torrent and one close to the village Pertisau. The detection system provided with a MK-224 infrasound sensor and a SM-4 geophone (which has been replaced with a SM-6 geophone in 2015), has been installed in June 2013 close to monitoring Station 1 (Figure 1b). In 2015 also a detection system based on a MK-224 and a SM-6 geophone was installed at Station 2. The detection system has been removed in 2018.
