MAMODIS - "MAss MOvement Detection and Identification System"

Automatic Detection and Identification of Alpine Mass Movements
based on a Combination of Infrasound and Seismic Signals

Wartschenbach

After debris flows in 1995 and 1997 at the Wartschenbach near Lienz in Eastern Tyrol several active mitigation measures have been constructed and also monitoring stations as passive measures have been installed. The catchment area of about 2.5 km² extends from 2113 m a.s.l. down to the Lienzer valley at 670 m a.s.l.. Since 2000, two stations, which were equipped with ultrasonic gauge and video cameras, were in operation and from 2013 to 2019 also one of the infrasound/seismic detection systems has been installed at Station 2 (Figure 1). This system consisted of a MK-224 infrasound sensor and a SM-4 geophone and was installed on the top of the filter check dam "Grissmannsperre" around 130 m above the village "Wartschensiedlung".
